AECI Foods – Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa

Sirius was tasked by AECI Foods to develop a comprehensive master plan for their production and warehouse facility in Mimosa, Cape Town. The project began with the creation of a capacity model, utilizing the company’s long-term growth projections to determine warehouse and processing requirements for the next decade. This information guided the design of the new warehouse facility and the phased implementation of projects to meet these long-term requirements.

The project was divided into three phases:

  • Phase 1 involved the construction of the new warehouse facility on a newly acquired property adjacent to the existing processing facility.
  • Phase 2 focused on expanding processing capabilities by transferring all existing processing capacity to the new facility.
  • Phase 3, the final phase, included the planning and construction of the second portion of the warehouse.

Phase 1 was designed to accommodate 5,326 pallet positions, consisting of 3,014 ambient pallets, 1,188 cold storage pallets (+8°C), and 1,124 frozen pallets (-18°C). The building and racking system were designed to allow for the addition of two more layers of racking, which would increase the total warehouse capacity to 7,113 pallet positions.

The entire master plan envisioned a total capacity of 15,177 pallet positions
